Services That Grow Over A Lifetime

From birth through the life span, Bais Ezra services grow together with individuals with disabilities and their families. Established in 1978, Bais Ezra services are designed to meet the needs of children, adults and their families at every stage of development.

After diagnosis of a child, parents are faced with a multitude of questions and concerns. Bais Ezra is there to provide support and direction, anticipating and identifying emerging needs as children grow.

As children mature, individuals and families face the challenges associated with developing adulthood, including post-school placement, job training and housing. Bais Ezra provides the services allowing for a seamless transition into adulthood.

As adults with disabilities age, they are expected to lead longer and healthier lives than ever before. Bais Ezra has created innovative models to address their emerging needs and enhance the quality of their lives.

MSC / Life Coach

MSC / Life Coach:

  • Service Coordination assists families in navigating the maze of available services for children with disabilities. Case management, advocacy and referrals are provided to help families access entitlements, therapeutic services and specialized equipment to provide the best possible care for their child.

  • As children develop into adults, Medicaid Service Coordinators act as Life Coaches, providing advocacy and case management to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Service coordination is the comprehensive and professional assistance with the self-management of one’s life. They help individuals identify their life goals, capitalize on their strengths and assist them in ensuring that their dreams become a reality.

  • As adults with disabilities age, Medicaid Service Coordinators help seniors capitalize on their strengths, engage in activities that are meaningful and productive, and access the necessary resources and services to enhance the quality of their lives.

At-Home Residential Habilitation & Respite

At-Home Residential Habilitation & Respite:

  • Trained counselors provide Residential Habilitation to children by spending 1:1 time with them in their homes and surrounding communities, advancing the skills that are crucial in the formative years including reciprocal play, motor skills, communication, self-care and socialization. As children mature into adulthood, trained counselors provide Residential Habilitation by spending 1:1 time with adults, increasing their socialization skills and advancing their independence in areas including money management, travel training, self-care, meal preparation and household skills. The goal of this program is to empower the individuals we serve by fostering independence and teaching skills that enable them to function more effectively in their homes and communities.

  • At-Home Respite gives temporary relief to families for several hours per week. The focus of the program is to provide much needed relief to families and caregivers of children and adults with developmental disabilities. While providing this respite, trained counselors work with children and adults with disabilities on a 1:1 basis, providing socialization and skill building activities.

  • Specialized respite care is provided to families of children and adults with complex medical needs in their homes for several hours per week. The primary focus is to provide essential respite for families caring for individuals with high medical needs.

  • Emergency Respite Care up to one week’s duration is provided to families of individuals with disabilities.

Recreation Programs

Recreation Programs:

  • The Sunday Recreation Program meets during the school year, giving parents the opportunity to attend to their other responsibilities. A full Sunday of multi-sensory activities provide enrichment and socialization to children with disabilities, including art, music, drama, sand and water play.

  • The Saturday afternoon B’nos Program allows children with disabilities to enjoy singing, dancing, playing and learning in an inclusive environment together with their typically developing peers.

  • Saturday evening is a wonderful time for teens to get together. The Motzei Shabbos Program invites participants to socialize with friends in a supervised setting. This program encourages teens to interact while partaking in a variety of recreational activities.

  • Weekend Respite Programs offer Shabbatons held in communities throughout New York and New Jersey. Children and hosting families are welcomed into each others’ lives for a mutually enhancing Shabbos experience. Participants enjoy lively meals, singing, dancing and presentations, creating meaningful connections which endure throughout the year.

  • The After School Program provides respite for families in the late afternoon. Children enjoy social and recreational activities with friends while parents are free to attend to other responsibilities

  • Social skills training, socialization and marriage opportunities are provided to adults with developmental disabilities in the Simcha Program. Participants can enjoy social gatherings supervised by trained mentors who follow up on participants’ interests and provide date coaching and counseling as needed.

Summer Camp

Summer Programs:

  • Bais Ezra provides Summer Camp opportunities to children from all over the United States. Children participate in Bais Ezra bunks integrated within premier camps in the Catskills and Poconos. The campers in these special bunks enjoy activities such as sports, arts and crafts, music, dance and drama, together with their typically developing peers. Trained staff provide the necessary supports to ensure that campers benefit from a genuine and fun-filled sleepaway camp experience. Campers with and without disabilities develop meaningful relationships and learn about the many things they have in common. Each summer, the camps report how much the camp – as a whole – benefits from the Bais Ezra bunk being a part of their program.

Participants explore their varied chosen interests in community-based settings including art, music, drama, nature and dance. Skills including baking, travel, money management, computer skills, volunteering in various capacities and prevocational skills are developed and applied in real-life settings throughout the community. Staff assist individuals in identifying sites that meet their individualized interests. Some volunteer sites in the community include charity organizations, food banks, day care centers, senior centers and the Aquarium.

  • Day Habilitation For Seniors With Developmental Disabilities provides enriching activities to seniors at their own pace and according to their own interests, to maximize their skill maintenance and acquisition and prevent further aging-related decline. Innovative methods of education, sensory stimulation and physical activities are utilized, ensuring respectful and varied programming with the necessary staff supports to maximize participation. Our productive and creative activities utilize visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile mediums of expression, providing a multi-sensory experience and the opportunity to create meaningful works of art. Activities include music, painting, ceramics, photography, intergenerational programming, horticulture, yoga, exercise and pet therapy. The program is directed by the participants’ choice, interests, and needs and helps maintain their independence and productivity in activities of daily living, communication, social skills and mobility.
