OHEL Foster Care

In New York City, when a child is removed from his or her home by The Administration for Children's Services (ACS) and the child is Jewish, OHEL will be contacted.  If you seek to elevate the life of a child and forever enrich your own family, consider becoming an OHEL Foster family. What is Foster Care

When a child is abandoned or removed from his or her home due to abuse or neglect the government is responsible for placing that child in a certified foster home. The OHEL Milton Schulman Foster Care Program is a contract agency with the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).

Becoming a Foster Parent

At the orientation meeting, OHEL professionals will provide you with an overview of foster care and answer any questions you may have about becoming a foster parent. Step 3: Complete the Foster Parenting Application At the end of the orientation, you will be given an application to fill out. Once social workers have reviewed it and are satisfied that the basic elements are in place, you will be notified of the next training series.

Support Services

The OHEL Milton Schulman Foster Care Program provides a range of continual support services to the foster child and foster parents from birth to age 21.An OHEL social worker is assigned to each child that enters the program. The social worker works with the child, foster and birth families to ease the transition process.
