Helping Parents toward Growth-Promoting Parenting

A Continuing Education Workshop for Mental Health Professionals

presented by
Irit Felsen, PhD
Associate Professor of Psychology, Ferkauf Graduate School, Yeshiva University

This advanced clinical workshop will provide a unique educational opportunity for mental health professions seeking to enhance their ability to guide parents of children of all ages toward growth-promoting parenting. Participants will gain valuable insights into the developmental approach to parent-child relationships and the key elements of a growth-promoting environment. The presentation will offer participants enhanced understanding of the role of working with parents in the treatment of children, and the fundamental steps in therapeutic work with parents as change agents. Discussion will include parent and child factors related to children's risk for pathology, concerns related to working with parents of adolescents who are in treatment, and parenting issues related to the treatment of young adults. Insights and applications from Interpersonal Psychotherapy will also be included to provide participants with hand-on tools for clinical practice.
