OHEL’s Sibshops Program Cooks up a Storm at Pomegranate Supermarket
This past Tuesday, OHEL’s Sibshops program was treated to a cooking demonstration in the kitchen of Pomegranate supermarket in Coney Island, Brooklyn.
As people came and went to do their grocery shopping, residents of OHEL Bais Ezra’s East Broadway home, along with their siblings, got a chance to hang out backstage in the Pomegranate kitchen, learning how to prepare and cook a delicious chicken cutlet dinner.
OHEL’s Sibshops program helps further foster and enhance the relationship of individuals with disabilities and their siblings. The night was planned in order to give the OHEL Bais Ezra residents and their siblings a chance to hang out, bond, and learn something new and exciting together. OHEL and all the participants appreciate the generosity and sponsorship of Pomegrante for this event as well as the many that Pomegranate has hosted in the past year.
Avi Ganz, the manager of Pomegranate, together with Pomegranate’s very own Chef Drew, prepared a 3 course meal with the help of OHEL’s residents and siblings. As the courses were being prepared, everyone had a chance to help out, and all enjoyed the smell of the delicious meal they were preparing for dinner.
At the end of the event, everyone was treated to the scrumptious 3 course meal that they helped prepare! After the exciting event was over, and everyone finished their dinner, many of the OHEL residents along with their siblings said that they were already looking forward to the next event, which will be taking place in November.
OHEL was honored to be joined at this special Pomegranate event by Rev. Catherine Petterson and Janelle Pfister from the OPWDD Faith Based Initiative, as well as Donna Limiti, OPWDD Director Region 4.
