Long Islanders Ride for OHEL Residents of the 5 Towns to Participate in TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour
OHEL is proud to announce that a dedicated group of bicyclists from the 5 Towns will be joining other bikers as members of Team OHEL during the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour taking place this Sunday, May 2.
Yitz Mendolwitz, Avi Pifko, Fred and Cindy Schulman, Phil Berkowitz, Shani Glenn, Benjamin Brandwein, Mark Klein, and Abraham Englard, along with the other members of Team OHEL have already raised thousands of dollars to help benefit OHEL Bais Ezra’s Summer Camp Programs.
Summer Camp Programs provide opportunities to children from all over the United States who might otherwise miss the fun, new friendships, and all the special experiences every child deserves in the summertime. From sports to Shabbos experiences, OHEL provides specialized services for children with disabilities in our summer camping and end-of-summer programs. OHEL pays full camp fees for children in the Foster Care Program or living in the OHEL Domestic Abuse shelter. Many children with disabilities also attend summer camp and are provided generous scholarships.
Summer Camp can be an especially memorable, even life-changing experience for many youngsters. The chance to demonstrate leadership and help others is life-changing, too, says Team OHEL member and high school senior Benjamin Brandwein. “I attended an OHEL Leadership Training Session last year,” said Brandwein, “I learned lots of great skills that I have put to use since then and I feel indebted to OHEL for the change they brought about in my life.” Brandwein is enjoying his training for the trek through New York City’s five boroughs on May 2 and raising money for OHEL is “an awesome feat.” There is still plenty of time to contribute to Team OHEL.
